Self-sample kits can't be used for a private well grant application. For the grant, see the technician-sampled test below.
Private well grant
The well grant test, with a technician at your door
Since July 2020, county councils need the water sample for a private well grant to be taken by a trained technician from an accredited lab. You can't take it yourself.
- Order for your county and Fitz Scientific rings you to book a day, usually within 2 weeks
- The technician samples your kitchen tap and brings it straight back to the lab
- Bacteria alert within 3 days, certificate within 10 working days
- Tested for your council's list, accepted for grant applications
- We fit the treatment within 90 days and the test fee comes off the job
The application also needs an itemised quote for the treatment. Once the certificate is in, we'll give you one. How the well grant works

Who analyses your water
Every sample goes to Fitz Scientific, an independent laboratory in Drogheda, Co. Louth, accredited by INAB (the Irish National Accreditation Board) to ISO 17025, the international standard for testing labs.
We don't test water ourselves, and we think that's how it should be. The people who sell you treatment shouldn't be the ones telling you that you need it. You get an impartial result from an accredited lab, and if it does show a problem, our plumbers fix it.
Accredited results are marked on the certificate. Fitz Scientific's PFAS method isn't accredited yet, and the Bord Bia test is analysed by an accredited partner laboratory.
Your certificate, and who sees it
- Fitz Scientific emails your Certificate of Analysis to you, with a sheet explaining the results
- They send us a copy, so we can talk you through it and price any treatment
- Rather we didn't get a copy? Say so in the order note at checkout
