How hard is your water?
Enter your Eircode and the hardness reading for your supply zone appears straight away, with a plain answer on what that much limescale means for your house.
Check your Eircode
Readings come from Uisce Éireann supply-zone data.
That doesn't look like an Irish Eircode. The first three characters are enough, e.g. D08 or R32.
Just the first three characters will do. We don't store your Eircode.
What the reading means
Hardness is measured in milligrams of calcium carbonate per litre of water (mg/L).
Little or no scale. You don't need a softener.
Some scale in the kettle and on the taps. A softener is a comfort choice here.
Scale builds up in the cylinder, the shower and the appliances. A softener earns its keep.
Scale is doing damage fast. Worth fitting a softener sooner rather than later.
On a private well? The supply-zone figure doesn't apply to you. Wells vary one to the next and need a lab test: see well water treatment.
