Description
Tells you whether your water tends to eat into copper pipe and brass fittings, or to lay down scale. Worth doing if you're getting pinhole leaks or blue-green stains on sinks and baths, or before choosing between pH correction and a softener.
What it tests
- pH
- Total dissolved solids
- Total alkalinity
- Calcium hardness
From these the lab works out the Langelier index. Below -2.0 the water is highly aggressive, between -2.0 and 0 it's moderately aggressive, and above 0 it's non-aggressive and leans towards scale. Values between -1 and +1 have relatively little effect on metal pipework.

How it works
- Take the sample from a hot tap and note the water temperature from your cylinder or boiler thermostat on the form
- Post it back or drop it to the lab in Drogheda the same day
- Your Certificate of Analysis is emailed within 10 working days

Take the sample
Most samples come from the cold kitchen tap. Take it on the day you send it back.

Send it the same day
Express Post or drop it to the lab in Drogheda. It has to arrive within 24 hours, so sample Monday to Wednesday.

Get your certificate
Emailed to you with a sheet explaining the results. Bacteria found? You hear sooner.
The test fee comes off your install
If the results show something that needs treating and we supply and fit it within 90 days of your order, we take the full price of this test off the job. Quote your test order number when you book.
Who analyses your water
Fitz Scientific, an independent laboratory in Drogheda, accredited by INAB (the Irish National Accreditation Board) to ISO 17025. We don't test water ourselves: you get an impartial result, and if it shows a problem, our plumbers fix it.
Accredited results are marked on the certificate.
