A water softener is one of those jobs that gets put off. Not because anyone doubts it works, but because €899 or €999 in one go is a lot in a month that already has the car insurance in it. From this week you can pay for any softener, drinking water system or boiling tap on ecofilter.ie monthly through
, and here's exactly what that costs, how it works and what to watch for.
Quick answer
- AquaSilk Mini fitted: €899, or €78.55 a month over 12 months
- AquaSilk Midi fitted: €999, or €87.06 a month over 12 months
- AquaSilk Maxi fitted: €1,150, or €101.55 a month over 12 months, with 18, 24 and 36 month plans available too
- How: add it to your basket as normal, pick humm at the checkout, apply on your phone. Most people get a decision in minutes
- Not interest-free: 3.99% to 8.99% a year depending on the amount and term, plus a small monthly account fee. Every figure on the site includes the fee
What the softeners come to per month
These are the 12-month plan figures, humm's €2 or €3.50 monthly account fee included, with the application fee shown separately because it's paid on the day rather than added to the loan. The fitted price covers the install by our own plumbers, connection to your mains and drain, setting the softener for your water and a first fill of salt.
| System | Fitted price | Per month | Up front | Total over 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AquaSilk Mini, 1 to 4 people | €899 | €78.55 | €15 | €957.60 |
| AquaSilk Midi, 5 or 6 people | €999 | €87.06 | €15 | €1,059.72 |
| AquaSilk Maxi, 7 or more people | €1,150 | €101.55 | €40 | €1,258.60 |
| 5-stage drinking water system, fitted | €399 | €35.97 | €15 | €446.64 |
Prices as of October 2026, VAT included. Representative APR 11.8% on the Midi (see the representative example below). Supply-only prices can be spread the same way, and the pay monthly page has a slider that works it out for any amount from €80 to €30,000.
Over €1,000, longer terms open up. The Maxi at €1,150 can also go over 18, 24 or 36 months. Over 36 months it's €40.06 a month, but at 8.99% interest, so the total climbs to €1,482.16. The 12-month plan is the cheapest way to borrow; the longer plans are the cheapest month. Pick whichever suits the house.
How it works
- Add it to your basket as normal. Supply only or fitted, same as paying by card. Use the size calculator first if you're not sure which softener you need.
- Pick humm at the checkout. It's one of the payment options beside card, Revolut and bank transfer.
- Apply on your phone. humm asks for your details, runs a credit check and, for most people, comes back with a decision in a few minutes. You need to be over 18, living in Ireland, with a regular income and a bank card.
- Pay monthly. The instalments come off your card on the same date each month. You can clear the balance early whenever you like, and humm doesn't charge for that.
Nothing changes on our side. The order comes through to us the same as a card order and we ring you to book the install.
What humm charges, straight
This isn't an interest-free deal and we'd rather say so than have you find out at the checkout. humm charges:
- Interest of 3.99% a year on amounts under €1,000. Over €1,000 it's 4.25% on the 12 and 18 month plans and 8.99% on 24 and 36 months.
- A monthly account fee of €2 under €1,000 and €3.50 over it. Every monthly figure on our site already includes this.
- An application fee on the day: €10 or €15 under €1,000, €40 over it.
- A €9 late fee if a payment is more than 24 hours late.
Representative example: €999.00 over 12 monthly payments of €87.06 (€85.06 instalment plus €2.00 account fee), with a €15.00 application fee up front. Interest rate 3.99% variable. Representative APR 11.8%. Total amount payable €1,059.72. Credit is provided by Flexifi Europe Limited, trading as humm, regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Subject to approval, over 18s only. Figures are illustrative and humm shows the exact terms before you commit.
Warning: if you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating, which may limit your ability to access credit, a hire-purchase agreement, a consumer-hire agreement or a BNPL agreement in the future.
Does it make sense for you?
For a lot of houses, yes. Soft water cuts what you spend on descaler, washing powder and shower cleaner, and it stops the slow damage limescale does to the boiler, cylinder and shower pump. Those savings don't cover €87 a month, but they take the edge off it, and the softener is doing its job from day one rather than in a year's time when the money's together. If you have the cash and no better use for it, paying outright is cheaper: €999 against €1,059.72 for the Midi. If spreading it means the job gets done this year instead of next, the €60 is buying you a year of soft water.
On a private well?
Well water systems are built to your lab report rather than sold off the shelf, so there's nothing to put in a basket. We quote from the report, and if you want to spread it we send you a secure payment link. humm works on that too, for anything up to €30,000.
See what any amount comes to per month
The pay monthly page has a slider. Drag it to the price of the system you're looking at and every plan humm offers on that amount appears, with the APR and the total, so there are no surprises at the checkout.

Common questions
Can I spread the supply-only price?
Yes. Anything over €80 on the site can go through humm, fitted or supply only. The Mini supply only at €549 is €48.74 a month over 12 months.
What if I'm turned down?
humm tells you straight away and no order is placed. You can still pay by card, Revolut or bank transfer, and we offer a payment link if you'd rather pay a deposit and the balance on the day.
Can I pay it off early?
Yes, any time, with no early repayment charge. If you clear it in month three you only pay the interest and account fees for those three months.
Who do I ring if there's a problem with a payment?
humm, not us. Your plan is with Flexifi Europe Limited, and they look after the account. We look after the softener.
