Description

Since July 2020, county councils need a water sample taken by a trained technician from an accredited laboratory before they'll consider a private well grant application. You can't take this one yourself. Pick your county and a Fitz Scientific technician comes to the house, takes the sample from your kitchen tap and brings it straight back to their lab in Drogheda the same day.

How it works

  • Choose your county and order. Use the well's address as the delivery address, and add a mobile number so the lab can ring you.
  • Fitz Scientific phones you to arrange a day. Allow up to 2 weeks for a slot in your area.
  • The technician samples your kitchen tap. Grant samples are only taken there.
  • If bacteria are found you're told by email within 3 days
  • Your Certificate of Analysis is emailed within 10 working days, ready for your grant application

What it tests

The tests your council asks for. In Meath, for example: arsenic, ammonia, colour, conductivity, iron, nitrate, pH, hardness, turbidity, total coliforms, E. coli, fluoride, manganese, taste and odour. Councils change their lists from time to time, so check the current requirements with yours before you apply.

Counties covered

Cavan, Fingal, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, South Dublin, Tipperary, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow. Not on the list? Ring us on 01 554 6266 and we'll point you in the right direction.

The grant application also needs a quote for the treatment. Send us the certificate and we'll give you the itemised quote the council asks for. See well water treatment.

Who analyses your water

Fitz Scientific, an independent laboratory in Drogheda, accredited by INAB (the Irish National Accreditation Board) to ISO 17025. We don't test water ourselves: you get an impartial result, and if it shows a problem, our plumbers fix it.

Accredited results are marked on the certificate.
