Treat your
well water
with precision.

Every Irish well runs different. Iron, manganese, hardness, bacteria, pH — the cocktail beneath your land is unique. Generic systems guess. We engineer treatment around your actual lab report.

01 The reality
Private wells in Ireland

Roughly 1 in 5 Irish homes draws from its own well. Most have never tested it.

Mains and group schemes are regulated. Private wells aren't. The responsibility for what comes out of your tap is yours alone — and the only way to know what's in it is to look.

02 What hides in groundwater
The chemistry of Irish wells

Eight things we look for. The right system depends on which we find.

Geology dictates chemistry. Limestone country runs hard. Granite skews acidic. Bog ground stains everything orange. Farmland carries nitrates. Your postcode is a clue — your lab report is the answer.

Fe
Iron · Atomic No. 26

Iron staining

Orange-brown marks on laundry, sinks and toilets. The most common contaminant in Irish wells.

Aesthetic
Mn
Manganese · Atomic No. 25

Manganese

Black specks and stains. Capped at 50 µg/L under EU drinking water standards.

Health
E.coli
Bacterial indicator

Bacterial load

Faecal contamination from livestock, septic systems or surface ingress. Treated with UV.

Health · Critical
Ca2+
Hardness · as CaCO₃

Limescale

Scales kettles, showerheads, boilers and combi tanks. Endemic across limestone counties.

Scaling
NO3
Nitrate · anion

Nitrates

Agricultural fertiliser and slurry runoff. Particularly hazardous for infants. Limit: 50 mg/L.

Health
pH
Acidity / alkalinity

Low pH

Pinhole leaks in copper, blue-green staining. Routine in granite and peat country.

Corrosive
H2S
Hydrogen sulfide · gas

Sulfur odour

Rotten-egg smell, especially in hot water. Removed by oxidation and catalytic filtration.

Turbidity · suspended solids

Sediment

Sand, silt, scale, rust flakes. Damages valves, pumps and downstream filtration if not captured first.

Mechanical
03 The process
How it works

Test first. Then design. Then install.

We don't quote a system before we see your numbers. Anyone who does is guessing — and your well deserves better than a guess. Four steps, from first contact to clean water.

Step 01

Test your water

Order a residential well test from an INAB-accredited Irish lab. We can recommend one. A standard suite covers iron, manganese, hardness, pH, nitrate and bacterial parameters.

Turnaround · 5–7 days
Step 02

Send us the report

Email, WhatsApp or upload the PDF. Tell us about your home — number of bathrooms, peak demand, plumbing space, mains pressure. That's all we need to begin.

No charge · No obligation
Step 03

Get a tailored quote

We engineer the treatment train your water demands — sediment, oxidation, softening, UV, RO — sized to your household. You see the why behind every line, not just the price.

Step 04

Install & commission

A clean, single-day install by our own engineers. We commission on site, retest the treated water, walk you through maintenance — and stay reachable for the life of the system.

04 The systems
Treatment technologies

The right combination. The right order. Sized for your demand.

A complete private-well system is rarely one box. It's a train. Sequence matters as much as choice — get it wrong and you'll foul a UV lamp or blind a softener inside a month.

Stage 01 · Mechanical

Sediment pre-filtration

Cartridge or backwashing multimedia filters that capture suspended solids before they reach delicate downstream media. Sized to micron rating and flow.

SandSiltRustScale
Stage 02 · Oxidation

Iron & manganese removal

Air-injection oxidation paired with catalytic media (Birm, Greensand Plus, Filox) to convert dissolved Fe²⁺ and Mn²⁺ into filterable solids — then capture them.

FeMnH₂S
Stage 03 · Ion Exchange

Water softening

High-capacity resin tanks regenerated with brine to swap calcium and magnesium for sodium. Properly sized softeners use less salt and less water than under-sized ones.

HardnessLimescaleSoap scum
Stage 04 · Disinfection

UV sterilisation

254 nm ultraviolet lamps deliver a lethal dose to E. coli, coliform, cryptosporidium and giardia without adding a chemical. Sized to GPM, not house size.

E. coliColiformCryptoGiardia
Stage 05 · Correction

pH neutralisation

Calcite and magnesium-oxide media beds gently raise the pH of acidic water — protecting copper pipework and brass fittings from slow, expensive corrosion.

Low pHBlue stainingPinholes
Stage 06 · Polishing

Reverse osmosis

A semipermeable membrane producing near-pure drinking water at the kitchen tap. The final word for nitrates, fluoride and residual dissolved solids.

After the orange goes away.

★★★★★

"Two other companies told us we'd just have to live with the iron. EcoFilter actually read the test, designed a system around it, and our laundry hasn't been orange since."

"Honest people. Quoted what we needed and not a euro more — softener, UV and an RO at the kitchen. Six months in, the water is unrecognisable."

"They wouldn't quote until we sent the lab report. At first that was frustrating — now I understand why. The system is sized perfectly and the water is brilliant."

Step one is the same for everyone. Find out what's in your water.

Send us your existing water test, or order a residential well test from an Irish accredited lab. We'll read it for you — and tell you, in plain English, exactly what your water needs.

What we'll need
  • The lab reportPDF, photo or scan — any format works
  • Your address & well depthIf you have it. Eircode is enough to start.
  • Household sizeNumber of people and bathrooms

07 Common questions

Answers, before you ask.

001

Why won't you just quote me a system upfront?

Because we'd be guessing — and a guess on a private well usually costs more than the system itself. Two wells on the same road can have wildly different chemistries. Until we see your iron, manganese, hardness, pH and bacterial figures, anything we quote is theatre. A short delay for a real test saves years of trouble.
002

How much does a water test cost?

A standard residential suite from an INAB-accredited lab typically costs €100–€180 depending on parameters. We'll tell you which parameters are worth ordering for your situation so you don't pay for tests you don't need.
003

Is the Local Authority Well Grant available?

Yes — eligible households can claim a contribution toward improvement works including treatment. We can guide you on what's typically claimable and what isn't, and how to structure the application.
004

How long does installation take?

A typical whole-house system — sediment, iron filter, softener, UV — is a one-day install. Larger trains with pH correction and point-of-use RO occasionally extend to a second morning for commissioning and retesting.
005

What ongoing maintenance is involved?

Salt top-ups for the softener (25 kg blocks or tablets), an annual UV lamp change, periodic pre-filter cartridges, and a service visit once a year. We schedule and remind you — no diary required on your side.
006

Do you service the whole country?

Yes. We install, commission and service nationwide — every county in the Republic. Our service network plans installations geographically to keep call-out times short.
